Grades K, 1 & 2:
RACE TO 100
(Older students can try this activity, too. Just change the exercises to more challenging fitness exercises that we do in class: curl-ups, push-ups, burpees, mountain climbers, "fire feet," 20-second "hug one knee" seated stretch, etc.).

Challenge yourself to see how long it takes you to complete your Race to 100! Have a competition with people living in your home to see who can get their exercises done first! Don't forget to keep good exercise technique and form throughout the game! If you don't have dice for this game, click and print on the ones supplied below. You can also make your own paper dice (How to Make Paper Dice). No printer? No problem! Just use a blank sheet of paper and number it 1-100 for the games.

Be sure to have your water bottle handy! Listen to your body and take breaks and drink water when you need it.

GRADES K-5:
THE FARTLEK CHALLENGE
Have you ever heard of a Fartlek? A Fartlek is a Swedish term that means "Speed Play." It is a known term used among athletes who participate in 5K's, and a strategy Olympic athletes understand as well. Stamina is something we talk about a lot in P,E. class. Click on the video below, and learn how to increase your stamina when you run.

*Be sure to have your grown-up's permission and supervision before trying this activity. Don't forget to keep socially distanced from other people!

(A special thank you to Colby Coulter, Physical Education teacher at Pelion Elementary School in Pelion, South Carolina for sharing this activity with us here at Newfield).

Get your heart rate up, and improve your core strength, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and cardiovascular (heart) health! If you don't have dice and playing pieces for your board at home, click and print on the ones supplied below. at home. You can also make your own paper dice (How to Make Paper Dice), and use some different color eraser, puzzle pieces (or anything small and safe that you have at home), to use as your playing pieces for each player. No printer? No problem! You can make your own Fitness Monopoly Board. Just tape four sheets of bank paper together (tape on the back so that you can write on the front). Use the one below to help you design your very own! Be as creative as you'd like - you can even switch up some of the exercises!

It not, you can use the printable link below.

K-5 HEALTH LESSON:
Mindful Eating
Since we are all spending a lot of time in our homes, it's important that we are aware of the foods and drinks we are putting into our bodies each and everyday. We learned in last week's Health lesson how important eating breakfast is each day. Our other meals and snacks are important though, too! We need to be aware of when we need to eat versus when we want to eat.

Watch this short video from Ilaria St. Florian, MS, RD. Miss Ilaria is the Manager of the KIDS' FANS nutrition program that is offered to our 3rd graders each year at all of the Stamford Public Schools. She is graciously offering additional health lessons in the form of short videos to all of our students during our Distance Learning time.

Remember to log your activities and minutes into your Weekly P.E. Activity & Health Log and submit it to Mrs. Spinner and Mrs. Iacono no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday!
